질문: Please compare the movies today to the movies you watched when you were young. What are the differences and the similarities? Tell me how movies have changed over the years.

 

답변: The question is a bit tricky. Well, In my opinion, the most significant difference between past and contemporary movies lies in the amount of emphasis on commercialization.  In terms of the similarities, they all pursue the excellent acting skills of the actors. In the past, as I remember, I've watched a lot of meaningful films that taught me some valuable life lessons or some important values, which put less emphasis on commercialization to focus on the values contained in movies. However, in today's cinema, most movies seem to focus on providing audiences with stimulation or excitement without any life lessons. For example, classic movies like Last Holiday and Truman Show offered insights into the importance of life and being yourself, while movies these days, like Avengers, Marble movies, or something like that, mainly focus on providing excitement rather than delivering any significant value, which is too commercialized. So, sometimes I feel sorry about these changes. There have been really a lot of changes from the past to the present. By the way, I think the movie industries should focus more on providing some meaningful content, instead of only providing stimulation.

답변: For me, I tend to engage in discussions with my friends and family about the basic details of movie industry gossip, such as the popularity of a film or the main actors and actresses involved like that. Recently, there was some shocking news related to the movie "Parasite". I don't know whether you have watched the movie of "Parasite", which is well known in Korea and globally. As I remember, the movie received prestigious awards at Cannes and other movie festivals. The main actor in the movie, Seon gyun Lee, he recently committed suicide. It was very shocking news, and many Korean people felt a sense of sadness and despair. I was felt deeply sad during that period. By the way, Shifting to recent trends, Uhm... it seems that the movie industry, as I discussed in the previous question, is increasingly focused on delivering stimulating experiences to the audience. So, most filmmakers produce those kinds of movies, because these types of movies tend to attract more attentions from audience, which make them more profitable than other genres. For example, "Conjuring", "Get out", which mainly evoke intense emotions sch as excitement and anger. Anyway, that's all of stuff that I know about the movie industries, because frankly speaking, I don't know much about this field.
